Still Blank might just be one of the most exciting new duos to keep tabs on right now. Made up of Jordy (from the laid-back shores Hawaii) and Ben (from the Manchester, UK). The two first started jamming together in a Liverpool basement. Fast forward, and their contrasting worlds have blended into a sound that feels both soothing and powerful.
Their new single “Cut Slack” is a gentle reminder wrapped in dreamy guitars and airy vocals. From the moment Jordy’s voice comes in, you’re hooked. It’s the kind of vocal that feels like it’s speaking right to you, equal parts confession and pep talk. Then Ben’s guitar kicks in, pushing the track forward with a guitar line that feels made for late-night walks or quiet reflection.
The lyrics land like advice from your closest friend. When Jordy sings “Take the reins, you’re in control, let it out, let it out from the inside,” it doesn’t feel like a line from a song – it feels like someone giving you permission to breathe a little easier.
By the end, their voices twist together in harmonies so natural you’d swear they’ve been singing side by side forever. It’s understated, but it leaves you with that just-one-more-play feeling.
And if “Cut Slack” leaves you hungry for more (it will), you’re in luck: Still Blank are hitting the road with Royel Otis this fall. If their live show captures even half the intimacy and catharsis of their recordings, it’s going to be one you won’t want to miss.
Still Blank may not be fully tied to any one genre – are they folk? Are they indie? It doesn’t matter, because that’s what makes them so compelling. They’re making their own lane and their new release is proof that they’re just getting started.
