Advents releases “Silk” ft Savage Hands

Advents just released their brand new single “Silk” ft Savage Hands via InVogue Records. “Silk” could be seen as a metaphor in a way because when you think of silk; you automatically assume something gentle and reassuring, but at the same it can make you feel trapped which can cause a person to stay in a toxic situation. This single captures the emotional turmoil with how explosive the vocals are that can represent the person admitting their toxic ways and not moving forward.

“The story centers on a relationship that ends in mutually assured destruction. There’s a lot of blame and resentment involved, and a will to end everything on their own terms. These are two people who lost themselves in each other and, instead of walking away, decided to see the worst in one another until they both withered away because of it in the end.”Advents

Interviewer: “With the song title being called “Silk“; is there a specific reason why the song was named this?”

Advents: ““Silk” ties into the lyrics and meaning of the song as a whole. Specifically, there’s a line in the first verse that says “enshroud me in your web, now you’re not alone”. We thought there was something striking about that line and wanted to play into the concept of spider silk and how it’s used to create a web/trap that is incredibly strong. It also relates to the meaning of the song in the sense that silk has a soft texture and is seen as desirable, but it also can be used for the benefit of a goal that is much darker.

Interviewer: “Did writing this song change how you view your own past relationships? (If you experienced a situation like this)”

Advents: “Yes, in a way. It was written about a hypothetical situation, but like just about all Advents songs, our goal was for the listener to be able to see themselves in it, especially if they’ve experienced any sort of toxic situation before. It certainly made a couple of us reflect on past relationships and recognize the patterns that we were part of and stuck in and not being able to see them until it was too late.

Interviewer: “With this release; what lesson do you want fans to learn?”

Advents: “Old habits and ways of navigating situations tend to die hard. This is an experience that many people can relate to, and even if you’re able to recognize that certain patterns are in place, they can be hard to pull yourself out of. When you’re finally able to reflect on any given situation after the fact, it can be a bit confusing and even embarrassing to come to terms with how you may have handled them. I think it’s important to know that many people can relate to thinking “of course I should’ve done this or that a different way”. There’s a common theme of this concept throughout the entire upcoming record and the various ways in which this appears in various parts of life.

Advents will be playing alongside SiameseCabal, and labelmates Mirrorcell on Friday, February 20th at The Meadows in Brooklyn New York
