Interview with NJ based emo band; Capillary!

With a genre that’s filled with emotional honesty and vulnerability; Capillary stretched those boundaries with their new album in remembrance. in remembrance feels intensely personal which allows the listeners to resonate to the bands purpose of creating this atmospheric album. Listening to this album is like reading a personal diary and as your fingers linger on turning the next page wondering what unspoken struggles might occur. in remembrance is filled with transparency and that sometimes struggles are difficult to outrun.

Interviewer: “Capillary; how did you two come up with the name? And does it have a deeper meaning behind it?”

Colin: “Brendan and I were sitting at the bar watching the Phillies and we were trying to think of one word band names for each letter of the alphabet. Got to C and didn’t keep going after that. There are a few lyrical themes related to the name that can be found in the demo related to blood flow.”

Interviewer: “For those who haven’t listened to the album yet; are there specific themes of the album that listeners can resonate to? Central theme of the whole album?”

Brendan: “Passing of time, loss/grief, growth, optimism”

Jim: “Change, realization and reflection, positive with the negative”

Interviewer: “Are there any singles on this album that mean the most to each member of the band?”

Jim: “disaster/perspective means a lot to me because I find I often look at the glass half empty but sometimes I need to take a step back and realize what I have and that is what perspective is all about.”

Interviewer: “While creating this album; did the band experiment with any different music styles?”

Colin: “The album was musically intended to be an expansion of our demo. Doing the things that we thought worked well from that again. The song that I personally think sounds the most different from everything we have previously done is Impermanence. It is more of an alt-rock song as opposed to an emo song. We really were just trying to figure out what we wanted our sound to be known as. What styles/types of parts we play well and how to elaborate on them in a full length setting. With that being said, there are several styles of emo/gaze/alt-rock that can be found on the album. The album is just our best blend of each.

Jim: “Emo, post hardcore for sure.  drew on a lot of influences we have from the 90s and early 2ks”

Interviewer: “What song are you most excited to perform live and why?”

Colin: “I am most excited to play the title track of the record to close out our live sets. It was written for this purpose and should make for an epic outro.”

Brendan: “I think it will be fun to play 8th and Monument. We have never played it live before and it has a nice groove to it. Also I get to do some backup vox at the end.”

Jim: “Im excited to do plainview live as it has a lot of energy and the bass is really fun for this one”

Interviewer: “As a band creating this album; did you guys learn anything new about yourselves?”

Colin: “I have known the guys for a while now so there really wasn’t a lot new about them specifically that I learned. In terms of putting an album together, the thing I learned is how much time really goes into making the final product. Making the music is the most fun and also easiest part of the whole process.”

Brendan: “It takes a lot to create an LP and it can be grueling at times. There were months that felt like they went on forever just going back and forth about mixing, trying to iron out and agree on certain parts, etc. If anything, it became clear to me that we all truly care about what we’re doing and what we share with the world”
