Wicked in Pittsburgh

As a very big fan of the OZ franchise and a lover of broadway musicals, having the opportunity to see Wicked at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh during their two month stay was absolutely phenomenal. I was first introduced to the musical when I watched the first movie in 2024 staring Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo.

After watching both parts in 2025, I instantly fell in love with the story of resilience, love, acceptance, and friendship portrayed by the characters. The phenomenal soundtrack with hits like popular and defying gravity, and the amazing set and costumes. The message it tries to convey to the viewers is that you have to always believe in your abilities and speak up for what you believe in, as well as dare to be different, authentic, and true to yourself while also taking chances.

It stays very close to the story of the original Wizard of Oz movie while also taking a very modern and background look at the story of the wicked witch of the west and Glinda the good witch and their unlikely friendship. The story is full of comedy and heartfelt moments that show what the OZ franchise is about. Wicked will be showing at PNC broadway in Pittsburgh until February 15th, but they are gearing up for a very busy year as they have big shows such as Water For Elephants and Means Girls slated to be shown this year as well. Live theatre is a wonderful way to experience true art and support the artists that make their passion and dream a reality every day, and there is almost always a show to fit all interests for everyone in a family.
