Emo-punk band; Shoreline announced that they will be releasing their album “Is This The Low Point Or The Moment After?” on March 13 via Pure Noise Records. Shoreline released “Youthfully Naive” recently that represents vulnerability and that life will continue to move forward, but there was a time when life was simple and you looked up to other people in your life. “Youthfully Naive” could also represent the younger version of yourself and how you were easily influenced by peers. Shoreline is a band that will connect with fans due to creating music that has a strong emotional impact.

Interviewer: “Before we speak about the new release and upcoming album; can you give us some insight about who you are as a band for new fans?”
Hansol: “Hey what’s up, my name is Hansol and I sing and play in the band SHORELINE from Münster, Germany. We’re a four-piece emo-punk band heavily influenced by hardcore. If I can help you get an idea about our sound by comparing to other bands, I’d say we’re somewhere in between Knuckle Puck + Anxious.
We came up in the DIY Scene in Germany, starting out in basements and squats and we still feel very connected to that scene. We’re about to release our new album “Is This The Low Point Or The Moment After?” on Pure Noise Records in March.”
Interviewer: “”Youthfully Naive” represents vulnerability; is there a reason why the band chose to create this single? Is there a personal story behind it?”
Hansol: “that guitar riff just stuck with us from the very first session on we’ve written the song. I do remember touring with KOYO last year and how “riff-driven” the band is, that definitely inspired us during the writing process of Youthfully Naive. One of the main themes of the record is realizing you’re getting a little older, seeing loads of your friends starting to marry, build houses and overall just become…real adults, while we keep on playing in this band and touring every year. Youthfully Naive talks about seeing a person you’ve always looked up to being vulnerable for the first time and understanding the importance of opening up to your friends.”
Interviewer: “What was the initial inspiration behind this album?”
Hansol: “I’ve always wanted to write a concept record, where we plan and write for a conceptual flow, rather than just picking “random” demos that feel the best. We finished a ca 3 week EU/UK tour with Four Year Strong last year and I came up with the idea for the record on the 14h drive home.
It’s a more hopeful way to ask the question “is the worst yet to come?” The album dares you to recall the situations in your life when you felt really down and if you were able to point out the turning point from which you started healing.
When listened from front to back in the correct order, the record is almost like a ride through a valley, getting heavier both in sound and lyrics, but ends on a lighter, hopeful note.”
Interviewer: “How do you think this album represents your growth as a band?”
Hansol: “I think by now we’ve really figured out what kind of band we want to be. Emo-punk with a strong focus on melodies, that is still very much influenced by hardcore. On the last record “To Figure Out” we were still experimenting a little bit here and there with disco beats and funny synths, whereby this time we wanted to be very stringent in sound and style and have a more coherent record.”
Interviewer: “Which song are you most excited for fans to hear first?”
Hansol: “Honestly, all of them. The songs can only exist in the form of the whole record, because they paint a bigger picture together and I really hope there’s people out there that still listen to albums as a whole. But obviously we had to pick singles, so those (Sweet Spot, Youthfully Naive, Out Of Touch and Paradox Man) are the ones we wanted to highlight.”
Interviewer: “Out of all the songs on this album; which one has the most emotional impact on the band and why?”
Hansol: “This would be a song called “Paradox Man”. It is very explicitly talking about my mental health, to an extent where I feel a little anxious being that open and vulnerable in public. It is one of the heavier songs of the album and I am very proud of us how it turned out.”
Interviewer: “Is there a message you hope listeners take away from this album?”
Hansol: “If anyone can relate to the lyrics and the songs can make them feel something, that would be amazing. The world is so incredibly depressing right now, I feel like creating connection through music and shows has never been more important in my life and I’d love to give something back to the scene. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think Shoreline is THE ONE BAND that is going to change it all, but if the people we’re able to reach with our music can feel a little less alone and connected to a community, then that’s the goal.”
Interviewer: “With the upcoming tours; what songs are you most excited to perform?”
Hansol: “Really stoked for Paradox Man for the reasons listed above and then I’m super looking forward to playing the opener Worry Count.
thanks for taking the time to ask these questions and caring about the band!” – Hansol
