On February 13, 2026- LAPÊCHE released their brand new album “Autotelic” via Tiny Engines. “Autotelic” is not only an album, but it’s such an emotional ecosystem that allows listeners to fully resonate to the musicians in different ways. The album expresses experiences that will create an intimate soundscape that will provide the sensation as unfolding deep emotions and being able to have clarity.

To celebrate the release, LAPÊCHE will be playing an in-store performance at Graywhale in Salt Lake City on February 21 at 2 pm.

Interviewer: For new fans, can you give us some insight about who you are as musicians?

Krista and David Diem: “It takes all 4 of us contributing and connecting to make the music. We all feel like making music is what we are supposed to do; to give back and bring joy and connection to people

Interviewer: “Autotelic” just got released; can you explain how the band decided on the musical style for the album?

Krista and David Diem: “The way we write changed completely during the pandemic, so this album was written by everyone working on their parts and ideas individually and simultaneously. We were also encouraged by our producer to write as many songs as humanly possible. He whittled it down to 10 with some band input and pushback here and there.”

Interviewer: what influences impacted the band with that specific style?

Krista and David Diem: “We were listening to a very wide range of music, but New Wave/Dark Wave was the soundtrack to our month-long recording, and it seeped into all the songs on the album. We didn’t have a set sound we wanted per se; we just wanted the vocals to be the focus of every song.

Interviewer: “Double Knotted”, “I Heart NY”, and “The Alien Dove” are my top favorite tracks off this album; are you able to explain what each song is about?”

Krista and David Diem: “Double Knottedis about persistence while wanting to give up. Doing our best to “trust the process” of life. Double-knotting your shoelaces and getting on the ride!

I Heart NY is about my love/hate relationship with NYC. It’s a hard place to live, and the reward?…is bragging rights that I survived it for 18 years! But I have also found myself in awe of it and fed (occasionally) by its energy.

The Alien Dove is a love letter in a way for our friends who lost their son at 13. He was an amazing, kind, intelligent kid, and their lives really revolved around his care. Thinking of him as being on the other side/ in another dimension, where he is free from pai,n hopefully brings peace to them and to anyone who has lost a loved one too soon.

Interviewer: Which track feels most personal to the members of the band?

Krista and David Diem: “Happy 4 U. Krista’s struggle with trying to become a mother, losing wanted pregnancies, and wanting to be happy for friends who get to be moms. So it’s VERY personal for her, and we all feel it too. It’s also maybe the most fun for everyone to play because it’s so danceable.

Interviewer: Were there moments where you held back, or did you let everything spill out, creating each single?

Krista and David Diem: “There was a lot of holding back and leaving space in the songs… cutting out half the notes in a measure to keep as much breathing room as possible for the vocals. It was sometimes uncomfortable, like, “This song is still partially undressed, don’t look!

We also really struggled to pick what songs would be singles. Trying to guess what will resonate with people is such a gamble. We think they all will? Or we hope so anyway.

Interviewer: What do you hope listeners feel the first time they hear this album front to back?

Krista and David Diem: “First, we really hope that is how it’s listened to! Side A and side B. We want people to feel a sense of belonging and joy, and we want the listener to get the feeling that we are connected and that they are not alone.”

Interviewer: What tracks are you most excited to perform live?

Krista and David Diem: “All of the songs that weren’t singles! We’ve never played them live, so it will be exciting to hear and feel what they are like in the wild.

Interviewer: What’s the biggest message from this album to fans?

Krista and David Diem: “Create for the sake of it and let go of the outcome. You are enough.
