American Hip Hop duo and “Mannequin Challenge” artists Rae Sremmurd hit platinum just shy of ten years since their release of “Black Beatles

The third single off their 2016 album “SremmLife 2“, was produced by Mike WiLL Made-It and featured Gucci Mane. The 10M unit milestone not only shows off the cultural impact the song had in 2016, but the longevity of a hit song that is still played in stadiums, sporting events, and viral videos to this day. The song spent seven weeks at number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and dominated as one of the defining number 1 hits of the late 2010s.

The hit became inseparable from the “Mannequin Challenge” trend. Its dominance in the 2016 internet and cultural landscape showcased one of our earliest examples of how a song can start viral trends, as celebrity adoption from people and organizations such as Lebron James, The Dallas Cowboys, Beyoncè, James Corden, and Michelle Obama joined in.

Coachella 2026 recently saw a reaffirmation of the duo’s chemistry as “Black Beetles” was performed, moments like this highlight how certain songs never leave the live circuit, the evolve into generational anthems. The song’s legacy is a reminder that the internet doesn’t just amplify hits, but freezes them in time for us to enjoy forever.
