TIAHN released her debut EP ‘LiFe iS wEiRd’ that truly makes you feel like you are living in a fantasy world. A world where smiles, humor, playful matter the most. And when you realize that not everyone in your life is worth keeping around. Each track represents the artists bubbly personality with a hint of sass and rage. “LiFe iS wEiRd” is an indie-pop EP that will bring the listener on a journey of confidence and self-acceptance.
“Bitch Face” is my favorite track off the EP because it’s filled with confidence and a soft rage. Almost like what’s the point in caring what others think about you? The vocal performance is delicate, but yet so emotionally charged.
“For my debut EP I wanted the songs to reflect the journey of how I have become the person I am. As I’m sure most can relate, my 20’s have been a wild ride and have taught me the world isn’t always fair and people aren’t always who they say they are. I found a lot of joy writing in my rage and turning into sass.”
“More” is a more softer and slower track that reminds me of something that belongs on the soundtrack of The Great Gatsby. A theatrical single that’s filled with lavish and glittering vocals that blends well with the more intimate instrumentation.
Interviewer: What’s the “gateway song” on the EP — the one that best introduces this era of you?
Tiahn: “The gateway song would have to be ‘Liar.’ It’s sassy, it’s confident and the perfect blend of pop, R&B and jazz that makes up my sound. It also has the biggest “diva moment” of the EP hehe.”
Interviewer: Which track was the most fun to record?
Tiahn: “I think it would have to be ‘Woman (On My Own Terms).’ Harry Verity and I really got into the flow for this one and recording it felt seamless. I remember finishing the vocal tracking day and being so stoked with how it was sounding and feeling. I am a sucker for big vocal stacks and this song has LOADS.”
Interviewer: Which track would you play first for someone who’s never heard your music?
Tiahn: “I would play ‘Bitch Face!’ It’s cheeky, punchy and a whole lot of fun. Why not start the introduction with a bang?”
Interviewer: Did you discover anything new about yourself while writing it?
Tiahn: “I’m definitely most drawn to writing when I’m frustrated or angry. It feels like a very therapeutic way of redirecting those emotions so I can take situations on with a more level head.”
Interviewer: Which track do you think fans will relate to the most?
Tiahn: “I would say ‘Dodgeball.’ Life can be tough and weird sometimes and we are all out here trying our best. Sometimes we just have to look at all the stuff life is throwing at us and have a bit of laugh or you’ll cry. It’s a good reminder to keep your head up through tough times.”
Interviewer: What’s the story behind the EP title?
Tiahn: “It’s actually a lyric from ‘Dodgeball.’ I thought it was the perfect summary of all the songs on the EP. Throughout each track, I’m truly just trying to navigate the trials and tribulations of life. It’s also fitting as dodgeball was my first release under TIAHN, and it was the track that gave me the confidence to record the EP to begin with, so it feels quite sentimental.”
Interviewer: If the EP had one message for listeners, what would it be?
Tiahn: “Set your boundaries diva!! Life (and people) have a way of testing you and pushing you beyond your boundary line and it’s important to know yourself and stand up for yourself. Whether that be dressing how you want, or standing firm with what you’ll accept/wont accept in relationships, it’s so important to look out for you!“
Interviewer: What kind of atmosphere do you hope fans experience while listening front to back?
Tiahn: “In my magical world, fans would be in a colour filled room with a bunch of disco balls and surround sound while maybe roller skating? I can also see fans listening with their fav headphones on while on a hot girl walk or over their speakers while doing some craft.“
