Interview with Sheffields alt-metal band, BITCRUSH that made a powerful debut!

Newly forged in Sheffield, BITCRUSH are here to make you ache in the space between the bliss and the breakdown. Amanita, Fran and Dom bring you shoegaze-infused Alternative Metal with a pop edge. Fresh out of the studio recording their forthcoming EP with award winning producer Sam Bloor (Graphic Nature, Dream State), BITCRUSH are ready to share a sweet, savage sound that won’t let you go.

Loathe” is a single that encapsulates the meaning of emotional turmoil explores resentment as well. The vocals are harmonic, soft, but filled with the pressure of having expectations which makes the narrator sound vulnerable. The vocal performance is haunting that blends smoothly with the instrumentation that makes the core message of the single more powerful. “Loathe” is a captivating single that has lyrics that are deeply personal with emotional depth which lingers throughout the whole song.

Interviewer: How did the band first come together?

BITCRUSH: “The band formed at university in Sheffield. I (Fran) had been writing music and was looking for a drummer when a tutor introduced me to Dom. We quickly clicked and started writing together, which became the foundation of BITCRUSH. Once we had developed the sound and direction of the project, we reached out to Amanita to complete the lineup in Late 2024.

Interviewer: Where did the band name come from?

BITCRUSH: “The name BITCRUSH was inspired by the audio plugin “Bitcrusher”. The plugin intentionally degrades audio quality to create a distorted, glitchy sound. At the time, I (Fran) felt it perfectly reflected the demos I was creating in my bedroom, which featured electronic elements, heavy riffs, and glitchy textures. The name seemed to capture the sound we were building and stuck from there.”

Interviewer: What themes naturally appear in your music?

BITCRUSH: “When writing lyrics, I (Amanita) am heavily driven by emotion and naturally gravitate toward themes of inner conflict, unhealthy attachment, internal struggles and connection. Whether the song is personal or fictional, I find I am drawn to vulnerability, expressing honesty about the human experience and what shapes the people we become.”

Interviewer: How would you describe your sound to someone who’s never heard you before?

BITCRUSH: “If you’ve never heard us before, think Evanescence meets Sleep Token with a touch of Deftones. We’ve got heavy riffs and catchy vocal melodies, with drums that take inspiration from Sleep Token and atmospheric synth layers throughout.

Interviewer: What bands or artists shaped your music the most?

BITCRUSH: “Some of our biggest influences are Sleep Token, Bad Omens, Spiritbox, and Deftones. What connects all of those bands is their ability to blur the lines between genres, blending heavy music with atmosphere, melody, and elements of electronic music. They manage to be both heavy and accessible at the same time, which is something we really admire and aim for in our own music as BITCRUSH.”

Interviewer: What makes your band different from others in your scene?

BITCRUSH: ” We’re inspired by a lot of different genres and influences, so our goal has never been to replicate a specific band or sound. Instead, we’re focused on combining the elements we love from across alternative music, metal, shoegaze, and electronic music into something that feels uniquely ours. We want our music to feel familiar enough to connect with people, but fresh enough to stand out.”

Interviewer: What kind of energy do you try to bring on stage?

BITCRUSH: “Although our debut live show is still ahead of us, we’re aiming to create an immersive experience rather than just perform songs. We want people to feel completely absorbed in the world the music creates. Whether that’s through atmosphere, emotion, or sheer energy, our goal is for people to leave feeling like they’ve experienced something memorable rather than simply watched a set.

Interviewer: What keeps you motivated creatively?

BITCRUSH: ” It’s still very early days for us, but the positive feedback we’ve received on our first releases has been incredibly motivating. Seeing people connect with the music inspires us to keep developing our vision and pushing ourselves creatively. We’d love the opportunity to tour, play festivals, and share stages with some of our favourite bands, and those goals keep us moving forward. Ultimately, we’re motivated by creating music that genuinely excites us and hoping it resonates with others too.”

Interviewer: What’s one thing you’ve learned from being in a band?

BITCRUSH: “Trust the process and trust your bandmates. It can be difficult letting go of an idea you’ve spent hours working on, but some of the best moments happen when you allow other people to bring their perspective to it. BITCRUSH only sounds like BITCRUSH because all three of us contribute to the music. Learning when to step back, collaborate, and trust each other has been one of the most valuable lessons so far.”

Interviewer: What’s next for the band?

BITCRUSH: ““Loathe” is the second single from our upcoming waterfall release campaign, leading up to our debut EP in September. We’ve recently been in the studio with award-winning producer Sam Bloor (Graphic Nature, Dream State) recording the EP, and we’re excited for people to finally hear it. Following the release, we’ll be preparing for our debut live show and continuing to release new music. This is just the beginning for BITCRUSH, and we’re excited to keep pushing ourselves creatively and see where this journey takes us.”

Interviewer: What do you want new listeners to remember after hearing your music?

BITCRUSH: “We want people to remember how the music made them feel. Whether it’s the emotion, the atmosphere, or a specific lyric that stays with them, we hope listeners come away feeling connected to the songs in some way. If someone finishes listening and immediately wants to hear the track again, that’s probably the biggest compliment we could ask for.”
