Right off the end of his “Mule Pull Tour” country and Americana artist Tyler Childers set out for his “On The Road Again” tour which he stated was based off of the Jack Kerouac novel by the same name, as Tyler Childers is known to be an avid reader, this shows through as he worked with the Libby library card app to get people more interested in reading. This tour spans all over the United States and other countries. In the midst of the tour, Tyler and his band the food stamps released a new album called “Snipe Hunter” giving this tour a great opportunity to be the testing ground for how the crowd will react to the new songs being performed live. I was able to go to the Charlottesville, Virginia show, and as an avid fan this was my ninth time seeing him and his band perform. He had Charlie Brown Superstar from Huntington, WV DJ before the opener “Of the Dell” also from Huntington took the stage and performed an electric set of their hit songs. After the Tyler and his band came on stage and performed a mixture of old hits and new songs from the new above mentioned album, even stopping before his new song “Bitin List” to talk about all the people who get on his nerves and how others can react and how to deal with the feelings of anger towards others. Almost halfway through the show, the lights on stage went dark and he appeared on a smaller B stage by himself, and his guitar, and performed a few of his slower songs. After a couple songs a couple of his band members joined his for a couple more slow songs before heading back to the main stage with the rest of the band to finish out the electricity show. This was a very special show for me specifically because I was able to speak to Tyler and his two band members for the first time, as well as get a set list and guitar picks! Tyler’s music holds a special place in my heart and the heart of many Appalachians around the region mainly because he speaks about the struggles and speaks up for what he truly feels strongly about and truly believes in, and it shows in all of his songs and all of his live performances. He gives a strong voice to the sometimes voiceless Appalachian region.
