Having a full concert to celebrate your birthday would be a pretty good birthday present, wouldn’t it? That’s exactly what West Virginia got when The Davisson Brothers Band and Oliver Anthony took the stage at the Clarksburg Amphitheater on Friday June 20th. The concert was at the outside venue surrounded by mountains, trees, and eager concertgoers as this was the first concert to kick off their annual summer concert series. The opening act was the Davisson Brothers Band, who was just inducted into the West Virginia Country Music Hall of Fame this year. They are now alongside other West Virginia greats such as Brad Paisley and Kathy Mattea. They played a few of their hit songs with the same energy and enthusiasm as always, and thanked the state of West Virginia for getting them the success they have today. It was a family reunion, as the band was formed by a couple brothers, and the lead singers son also joined in to play guitar. One of the most memorable parts was when the father of the brothers came out to perform. He sang a couple songs and also played guitar, something he has not done in many years due to an illness. This brought such a beautiful sense of happiness throughout the band and the crowd alike. They also performed a couple brand new songs. Another part that was a fan favorite was the performance of their hit song “Chicken Train”, the headliner Oliver Anthony made a guest appearance and surprise the crowd with his dance moves. After their set Oliver Anthony came on stage with a surprise guest in his band, the West Virginia native fiddle player Philip Bowen who is very popular on social media for his fiddle covers of popular songs throughout every genre. Oliver Anthony played an electrifying set full of new and old songs, including his new hit song “Scornful Women” which was a crowd favorite, as the song has garnered a lot of attention recently. At one point he brought back out the Davisson Brothers band for a rendition of “Country Roads” which was very beautiful on West Virginia day as the whole crowd jumped to their feet and sang along. He ended the night with his hit song “Rich Men North of Richmond” and thanked the crowd for attending, saying that he promised to be back in the future and that he would like to bring Hank Williams IV and Jesco White with him.
