Powerful female voices sell out Goldfield on Vana’s The Lady In Red Tour

On Friday May 15-Vana brought her first headline tour “The Lady In Red” to Goldfield in Roseville CA. Not only did she bring it she sold it out! Vana is on tour promoting her recent singles “Pray” and “In Your Name” for her upcoming album set to release in fall of 2026 with Sumerian Records.

The first band of the night is the Sydney rock band Redhook fronted by Emmy Mack. Redhook on first listen is a mix of pop punk, nu metal and alt rock. The first song of the night is a perfect example of what you are to expect they started with their song “Bomb.com” the song starts with electronic vibes with a rap cadence into a catchy rock chorus that makes you want to jump up and down. No matter the song you were left entertained especially when it got into the growls. Their stage presence is infectious. The funniest part of their set is when they had two bubble machines going and Emmy jumped into the crowd and had a mosh pit going on around her.

Next Scream Queen on the bill was Deadlands with front woman Kasey Karlsen. I’m not going to lie I might be a bit biased when it comes to this band as I discovered Kasey on tik tok through her many vocal covers of some of my favorite bands and instantly became a fan. I also got to see them perform at Aftershock festival when they attended. The evolution in just those years has been incredible. What you can expect from their show is a very in your face approach Kasey has no problem getting in the face of her fans or photographers to involve you in the show. The band can easily go from demonic screams to angelic and catchy vocals. They had everyone singing along to their song “Die In Paradise” and vibing to songs like “limbo” off of the latest EP “SEVEN” released in June of last year.

The third act of the night was Arizona’s own Eyes Set To Kill! This band is no stranger to the scene as one of the survivors of the Myspace core era and veterans of the warped tour pits. They were also recently on the Garza Podcast and will be performing at Aftershock this year. Such a busy schedule for someone that just had a baby. The bands driving force consist of sisters Alexia and Anissa Rodriguez. In an era where everyone genre blends it is refreshing to hear that Eyes Set To Kill has kept their essence being traditional metalcore with good hooks. What stood out to me was their sound the instrumentation was nice and the bass tone was thick and not hidden behind the mix like most bands do it stood proud. I also couldn’t help to feel a little jealous of Alexia’s multiscale Kiesel guitar… she knows her stuff. One other thing I enjoyed about their set is how much fun they looked to be having which is I feel is so important for a band thats been around a long time like them.

Now to talk about the star of the show VANA! Vana came onto the scene with singles in 2022 and an ep in 2023. From the very beginning her esthetic is something you can’t miss and if you are on the alt side of tik tok have surely seen her glowing in bright red hair and outfits to match. Her stage show and esthetic is blood red visuals, almost feels ritualistic with her band members wearing black and hiding behind a mask. If I can describe what going to a Vana show is like its like being hypnotized by her singing and cute demeanor then getting whiplash and snapping out of the trance once she starts screaming and the breakdowns hit. Her show from production to performance is something to behold and think everyone should experience at least once and there will be more chances with her increasing popularity and success. From releasing hit singles this year “In Your Name” and “Pray”, to opening up for Linkin Park in her biggest show yet, to almost selling out every show on her tour to releasing a new album later this year, I don’t see her slowing down anytime soon. I have been in the metal scene for a long time and I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw Vana headline bigger shows and perform in bigger festivals on a later stage in the near future.
