Fox Thoughts is just not a band that decided to throw out a debut EP, but they created something more intentional and raw that is untouched by the industry and having certain expectations placed on their shoulders. A band based on DIY ethics and wanting to grow themselves with a different kind of honesty. The imperfections make the songs feel alive rather than unfinished which captures the true tension of the DIY community. Demo 2026 is authentic and preserves so much personality behind each track that showcases that music can be created without large amounts of production.

Interviwer: For those who never listened to the band before, how would you describe your soundscape to them?
Laxon: “I think because of how vast the sounds are, it’s always been difficult to describe the sound in a succinct way. I think it’s easier to talk about the sonic goals of the band. I’ve always loved the polished, confessional singer-songwriter pop sound as much as I love the raw emotions of the diy hardcore and punk scene. So how can you make something that’s a sensible balance of the two? More specifically, how can you marry a produced sound with something so visceral? I think it’s up to the listener to say whether or not that was achieved.”
Interviewer: What bands or artists shaped your music the most?
Laxon: “Jeez. Another incredibly hard one. I’m just gonna list off a bunch of things that I know I was listening to the time. mk. Gee, crush your soul, invoke, John Mayer, kmoe, porter Robinson, volcano, beach bunny, blink 182 (forever), crooks, counterparts, nothing, nowhere., novo amor.”
Interviewer: What emotion or experience sparked this collection of tracks?
Laxon: “I’ve always looked as music as my way of scurrying from everything and processing. Fox thoughts is essentially my diary and these songs are some entries from the last decade. All the bad, ugly things I go through get shoved in this little hole and come out as, hopefully, something listenable.”
Interviewer: What does the title of this collection mean to the band?
Laxon: “The subtext of the release being titled “demo” and not a formal name or EP, is that these songs will be re-recorded, mixed, and mastered not in my kitchen. Although 6 songs, was really meant to showcase all the different avenues we could go down in a way that felt cohesive. Some of these songs are 10+ years old and others were written within a year of its release. There are many more songs in the bag and we’re hoping to release it, along with the demo songs, as full length later this year.”
Interviewer: What do you hope listeners take away from your music?
Laxon: “I don’t know. I don’t think I care if there’s a take away. Please just listen to the whole thing front to back once! It took a lot of time and sacrifice from us and our loved ones to get this thing out. So even just a thoughtful listen is deeply appreciated.”
Interviewer: What’s one message you’d want to leave with your listeners?
Laxon: “Over thinking is great. These songs are a byproduct of my endless rumination emotionally, musically, introspectively. But not if it creates a barrier from actualizing your ideas. This whole thing was never meant to be more than Fox thoughts scribbled on my whiteboard. These songs were never supposed to see the light of day. If it weren’t for my wife and George, I would still be driving myself insane writing these songs and doing absolutely nothing with it, wondering if anyone would like these songs?“
