Advents will be releasing their upcoming album A Bitter Truth You Can’t Undo that will be out on July 17 via InVogue Records that will easily be the most emotionally driven material the band has created.
The band released their newest single “Never Heaven” that has an ethereal feeling to it with a sinister meaning behind it. The single has a compelling balance of beauty as well as heaviness that perfectly blends into an euphoric atmosphere. “Never Heaven” has a dreamlike soundscape, but has hidden aggression that dims the light and enhances the raw emotion
“When writing ‘Never Heaven’ my goal was to explore the idea of dark desire, where pain can also feel sacred. I was inspired by fantasy romance novels and really wanted to bridge a heavy, dark song with one that also felt sexy. When we were working on the instrumental, I immediately felt it was designed to be a dark love ballad, and it all fell together after that.” – Tyler Simpson

Interviewer: For those who have never listened to the band before, can you give us some insight about your soundscape?
Joe: “Advents is a melodic, post-metalcore band by most definitions. Some of our music leans heavier while other parts lean more melodic and even hard rock, depending on the song you’re listening to.”
Interviewer: What was the overall vision behind this album?
Joe: “We wanted to create a full collection of songs that worked together and could be experienced from start to finish. It has a familiar, modern metalcore polish, but we also wanted to preserve the old school vibe of sitting with a record in an intentional way – from the lyrics, to the artwork, to the way certain parts of the album were recorded, and more.“
Interviewer: “Was there a central emotion or theme connecting the album?
Joe: “There’s no single emotion that’s on display more than another, but there’s a lot of anger, sadness, longing, and hope. Each song leans into whatever it’s trying to convey fully, and nothing is phoned in.”
Interviewer: Which track challenged you the most creatively?
Joe: “Each track pushed us in a different way, so it’s hard to narrow this down to just one. Some of them are more technical on the instrumental side of things, while others stretched us in terms of finding the right lyrics to express an idea as concisely as possible. If we had to choose one, it’d be Silk. The song has a lot of twists and turns throughout.”
Interviewer: Do you prefer listeners interpreting songs their own way?
Joe: “Yes – each of our songs has its own inherent meaning to us, but they can also be listened to and interpreted through the lens of whatever the listener is feeling or going through at that time. There are times we’ll discuss the literal meanings of some of the songs publicly, but others are based on very personal experiences that we won’t delve into as much. Ultimately, once a song is released, it’s no longer only ours, so we want the listeners to take it and make it theirs as well.“
Interviewer: What influenced the album’s atmosphere or tone?
Joe: “We love the textures happening in a lot of modern heavy music, so it’s definitely influenced the sound of the band more and more over time. We’re taking what we’ve always done and working on dialing it in more as we grow as a band. It’s polished, but it’s also very raw in other ways. The vocal tracks that were laid down are what you hear. The drums were actually recorded – not programmed. We wanted to take advantage of the perks of modern technology in music while blending them with an old-school edge wherever possible.“
Interviewer: Did everyone bring something different creatively to this album?
Joe: “For sure. We all share genres and artists as far as our personal taste, but each of us is also inspired by music that’s pretty different. You can hear that in the music we make, but it all works together to make up what Advents is.”
Interviewer: What does this album say about where you are in life right now?
Joe: “We had a couple of working demos, but due to a bunch of different circumstances, we had around two and a half weeks to write and record the bones of the songs, then a few more days to lay down the drums, which was insane. It was a very quick process and down to the wire in terms of the timeline, so I’d say that’s a great real life example of showcasing where we are right now as a band. We’re pushing harder than we ever have, without a ton of time to overthink or overanalyze. We knew the album needed to happen, so we made it happen.“
Interviewer: Which song best represents the album as a whole?
Joe: “”Kingdom Falls”. It has just about everything we do in just over three and a half minutes. The song delves into the struggle that each of us has endured while chasing this dream of bringing music to people around the world, the failures along the way, the specific type of perseverance it takes to try to make being in a band work, etc. It closes out the album in a way that makes it feel complete, but also like it’s just the beginning.“
Interviewer: What kind of atmosphere do you hope fans experience during shows?
Joe: “We want people to come out and just enjoy spending time in a room full of people with shared interests and taste, without overthinking anything. Shows are a great way to take a break from the day-to-day realities of the world that aren’t always so great. We want people to think about the songs and what we’re saying, but also let loose and forget about whatever may be stressing them out at the time.”
Interviewer: Is this album the beginning of a new era for the band?
Joe: “Yes – 100%. We are incredibly proud of what we’ve created here with A Bitter Truth You Can’t Undo and it’s encouraged us to start demoing out ideas for what’s on the way next. And it’s safe to say, we already know the next round of music will be pretty different from what you hear on this album.“
