On June 2nd “The Worlds Fastest Death Metal Band” Archspire made an appearance at Goldfield. They have made a name for themselves as being the fastest in their genre! This is their first tour being an Independently owned band and the sky is the limit. They have shown the metal scene you don’t have to take yourself so seriously and can have fun. That includes stand up comedy and a bubble wall of death.

The first band of the night MUTILATION BARBECUE a death metal band from Philadelphia. Unfortunately I did not get to listen to this band in its full capacity as their singer was ill. That was not a total loss though as the band pulled together to perform an instrumental set and had guest vocals from the other bands and vocals from the bassist as well. The instrumentals were brutal and caveman but that’s exactly what you want from a death metal band. Their song “Amalgamation of Gore” is a track that sums up what they are about. Have to give a shout out to the band for playing on without a singer.

The second band of the night was Crown Magnetar they wasted no time in demonstrating the energy the band was about. The band came out confidently but the stand out member to me was the bassist. He came out screaming and remained screaming throughout the show. When you can hear someone screaming over loud metal music you know its loud. They just released a single called ‘Impaled Genesis” and ‘Desecrate Infinite” . Listening to this band sounded like the future of modern death core is secure and in good hands look forwards to what they bring in the future.

The third band of the night was Undeath from New York. They came out on stage playing what felt like traditional death metal. In an era where the new wave of death metal and death core adds modernism to their music Undeath feels like its sticking to its roots, strong songwriting and traditional riffs. No fancy tricks here just good old fashioned songwriting and brutality. They brought a great energy and had mosh pits and the first crowd surfers of the night going.

The last band of the night from Canada, Archspire have made a name for themselves as the fastest death metal band. Once they proved that they had nothing else to loose. They continued making fast death metal but without the stress that came with the image and what other people thought about them. Now with them becoming independent that means they have total freedom. They started the night with ‘Drone Corpse Aviator” a song that shows what Archspire is about speed and brutal riffs. All around these are some of the best musicians in their genre and I dare say in terms of bassist might be one of the best in the metal scene. When they aren’t playing complicated music the singer likes to take breaks and make jokes, some that he’s put together in a binder of best jokes. They had a technical difficulty and Tobi’s guitar wasn’t working for the first song, instead of the band panicking they continued to play while looking over and laughed. The singer said did you guys see that he just up and quit the band and laughed it away, the issue was fixed an on went the show. I very much look forward to how far the band goes and hope to see the at some festivals soon.
