Rogerfall recently released their newest album Life Is Sold Out that captures how the world is slowly deteriorating and nothing is “fresh” and everything is slowly not being made by human hands. It also encapsulates self-awareness and understanding who you are as an individual. The pop-punk energy this album has will have listeners craving for more, but it also has tracks that seem a little worn representing emotional honesty that fans can also relate to. Each track on this album only increases the momentum and it gives a nostalgic tone that captures the universal feeling of the pop-punk genre.
Interviewer: For new fans that just discovered Rogerfall, can you tell us some insight about the band and what led you to create the soundscape that you have?
Rogerfall: “Well first of all hello to our new fans wherever or whenever you are! So, the band was created after the fall of civilization (covid) and we have mainly pop-punk influences, for example like Blink-182, Good Charlotte, Paramore, Green Day. We all liked this kind of music so we also enjoyed pretty much playing it.”
Interviewer: “Life Is Sold Out” is the band’s newest album; What inspired this album, and when did the writing process begin?
Rogerfall: “Our greatest inspiration was always major and minor events happening around us from the smallest argument about something to the biggest news in the world, we always made (and make) something out of anything! The process began in 2021 or so, took some years to be completed but here we are!“
Interviewer: Is there a central theme or story that connects the songs?
Rogerfall: “Of course there is! The main theme, as well as the title of the album, talks about how life is theoretically sold out, meaning everything nowadays is made, created, or being thought by someone else, so there is no ground zero or something entirely new, or in some cases not even human-made, and that’s why you have to try to overcome and work harder than before in order to achieve the things you want, whichever they may be.”
Interviewer: Which song took the longest to complete, and why?
Rogerfall: “That is by all accounts “Are We Home Yet”. It is also the longest one and has three different parts, so it automatically makes sense why it took the longest. Also it talks about how you perceive and communicate with your own self and in many times how hard it is to just be okay with yourself, it’s like a question-answer theme until you find and agree on a common path with yourself (most of the times).”
Interviewer: How did each member contribute to the album?
Rogerfall: “We all did our parts, unexpectedly good, each one in his own field.”
Interviewer: “C.H.A.O.S” and “Dethrone” are my favorite tracks of this album, can you tell us more about them?
Rogerfall: “We are glad to hear that! “C.H.A.O.S” is about an individual, not something specific, who lives and process his/her life without considering any consequences whatsoever and continues happily until something happens (which is unspecified also) [most of the time we want to leave the audience to decide the outcome].
“Dethrone” is about the direct consequences and influence the AI has in our lives and how it threatens any types of art, and obviously it doesn’t stop there. In about halfway through the song, the theme becomes more of a post-apocalyptic type, emphasizing on the fictional endgame of the actions of today’s use of AI.”
Interviewer: “Speedrun” is only 14 seconds long, why is that?
Rogerfall: “Well, as the lyrics say, I didn’t (and still don’t) like this drumbeat, so, it was all I could take!“
Interviewer: “Current Horrors’ has a hint of a haunting melody behind it and is a little slower compared to the other songs; what’s the meaning behind the lyricism?
Rogerfall: “It has also a kind of a fictional horror theme, like playing a horror game, describing a story where you find yourself in a haunted house (or is it) and you are trying to escape. The twist is that at the end you manage to outgrow your fears and you become the “predator” of the story! We wanted the music to match the story so yeah it has a more haunting and fierce theme.”
Interviewer: Looking back at the album now, what does this release represent for the band at this point in your journey?
Rogerfall: “It’s something we are very proud of, it took many hours in the studio, many hours of songwriting, creating the melodies, the themes, crafting the lyrics behind every story, and we are glad that even after 5 years it is finally out and is available to anyone that wants to listen! We are very grateful for a lot of people that helped us and supported us through the process! More will come eventually! Cheers!“
