Sam Smith Drops Empowering New song ‘Oh Mother’ Featuring The TwoCity Chorus, Preceded by Upcoming Album Hazel Eyes. HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (July 22, 2026) – Today, Grammy Award winner Sam Smith shared “Oh Mother,” featuring the impassioned and powerful 28-member TwoCity Chorus, the artist’s second preview from their forthcoming fifth studio album Hazel Eyes, out August 21 via Capitol Records.
After the effervescent love anthem “My Guy” was released last month, “Oh Mother” delves into more poignant themes of betrayal, heartbreak, and the solace found within a mother’s unconditional love.
The deeply emotional track is further elevated by a dramatic production featuring Sam’s lifelong friend Dante; he provides guest vocals alongside a powerhouse ensemble cast, while The TwoCity Chorus embodies “the fury of a mother witnessing her child’s betrayal, while also providing a protector force and power, strength and tenderness, born out of the strength of feminine energy,” according to the artist.
The producers – Sam Smith, David Odlum and Simon Aldred – utilize the same organically developed approach that defines the entire Hazel Eyes record by combining pounding live piano, grimy guitar riffs, percussive elements and expansive orchestra strings arranged by the visionary Gabe Noel to build towards a stirringly triumphant call-and-response.
The release of “Oh Mother” follows the much-lauded September release of “My Guy.” The SPUR wrote it’s “an anthem for everyone finding love that feels like a new home, and that includes us,” and CBS News Sunday Morning praised its “critical advancement for LGBTQ+ representation among mainstream love songs” while noting of its “joyful celebration of love and guest harmonies from Fiest and Moses Sumney,”.
The 12-song collection Hazel Eyes, will follow Smith’s critically-acclaimed 2023 album Gloria, which reached number one worldwide with the hit “Unholy,” and features the chart-topping duo’s Grammy-win, among more than a half dozen nominations, for a year. Written across the past three years at numerous iconic studios such as Electric Lady in New York, various songsmiths, artists, composers and more joined in the creation process with Rob Moose (Sharon Van Etten, Fleet Foxes), Shahzad Ismaily (Lou Reed), Feist, and Gabe Noel among some of many creatives contributing to the LP, bringing deeply personal experiences and artistic visions to each track, showcasing the sonic landscapes in the recording process from detailed organic instrumentation to orchestral sweeps and bold percussions with all the emotion that Sam Smith’s iconic ballads possess.
Thealbum’s collection of songs, from “Oh Mother,” “My Guy” to “Love is A Stillness,” and “To Be Free”-the record’s emotionally charged finale which inspired Sam’s ongoing, sold-out To Be Free residency series-culminate in a journey reflecting love’s complexities and resilience, of navigating loss with grace, and finally celebrating life’s many splendors through powerful live instrumentation, including artists such as Hozier, Ed Sheeran, SIENNA SPIRO, Brandi Carlile, Kim Petras, and others joining Smith on stage in the past, among many other notable figures. Sam continues their ongoing, now extended U.K. Performance residency in September with appearances in Manchester before making their way to London’s Coliseum for an eight-night stand, Sam’s only remaining multi-show run in their home country since touring on Gloria in 2023, following the Guadalajara and Mexico City dates this month.
